Semax is the ACTH(4-10) heptapeptide extended at the C-terminus with proline-glycine-proline. The parent fragment is a melanocortin-derived sequence without corticotropic activity, and the extension slows its degradation, giving a tool compound stable enough for in vitro and rodent work.

Analytical note — Semax. The N-terminal methionine is among the most oxidation-prone residues in the standard set. Methionine sulfoxide adds 16 Da and usually elutes earlier than the parent peak, so a competent analysis separates it rather than integrating it into the main peak.
