Two materials that share one name

TB-500 is a product name rather than a chemical one, and it is used for two different things.

The fragment is what we supply under the name TB-500: a lyophilized research material in 5 mg and 10 mg single vials, and the second peptide in our two BPC-157 & TB-500 blends, which carry 5 mg of TB-500 in the 10 mg vial and 10 mg in the 20 mg vial. The mass on a certificate is the quickest way to tell which of the two it covers. The certificate, item by item

Identity

An observed mass from mass spectrometry, printed next to the calculated figure, which for the fragment is near 889 Da. A report with no mass has not established identity, and one whose mass is near 4,963 Da is describing the protein, not the fragment.

Purity and the wavelength it was read at

HPLC purity is an area percentage, and the detection wavelength has to be printed on the chromatogram. For this peptide the wavelength is unusually important: Ac-LKKTETQ contains no tryptophan, tyrosine or phenylalanine, so there is almost nothing to detect at 280 nm and a purity figure read there is close to meaningless. A reviewer should expect a lower wavelength, near the peptide bond absorbance.

Net content

Two lysines in a seven-residue chain mean a measurable counter-ion contribution, usually TFA, on top of residual water. The label mass is gross; net peptide content across our catalog is typically 70–90% of label, and it belongs on the report as its own figure rather than being inferred from purity. Traceability

The laboratory should be named, the report should include a method section, and batch photographs should be published with it. Our vials carry no printed lot number; the match between a vial and a report is made by comparing cap color and crimp color with those photographs.

Arrival and storage

The lyophilized powder is stable over normal transit, so TB-500 ships at ambient temperature. Once delivered, keep the sealed vial at 2–8 °C, dark and dry, and let it come up to room temperature before you open it for the first time, since a cold vial opened in warm air gathers moisture. Go through the parcel inside 7 calendar days of delivery: confirm the vial count against the order, compare cap and crimp colors with the batch photographs on the report you plan to cite, and check each vial for cracked glass or a lifted seal. 2. Is the detection wavelength printed on the chromatogram, and is it one at which a peptide with no aromatic residues can be seen?
