Where to Buy PT-141 in the USA: A Buying Guide

This page is a buying guide for laboratories in the United States that need PT-141 as a research material, and it is not a product listing. PT-141 as a molecule

PT-141, listed in registries under the name bremelanotide, is a cyclic heptapeptide. Its seven residues read Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH, the ring closed by a lactam bridge from the aspartate side chain to the lysine side chain, with an acetylated norleucine outside the ring and a free carboxylic acid at the C-terminus. The formula is C50H68N14O10, the mass 1025.2 g/mol and the CAS number 189691-06-3. We supply it as a lyophilized research material in one size, a 10 mg vial.

PT-141 is therefore Melanotan II with its terminal amide exchanged for an acid, one nitrogen swapped for one oxygen, while Melanotan 1 is a longer chain of a different kind that shares an N-terminal stretch with the other two. What a PT-141 certificate has to establish

Two checks carry more weight for PT-141 than for a linear peptide. The first is the ring. The uncyclized linear precursor is the contaminant most worth ruling out, and it weighs about 18 Da more than the product, the water lost when the lactam forms, so the report must print an observed mass beside the calculated one; a purity percentage by itself cannot show that the ring closed. The second is the terminal group. PT-141 and Melanotan II are one dalton apart and elute near each other, so the sequence line on the certificate, with its -OH ending, is what separates them on paper.

The standard items follow. A named laboratory. A method section giving column, gradient and detection wavelength, without which the HPLC area percentage is just a number. Net peptide content as a separate figure, since label milligrams are gross and net content is typically 70–90% of label once counter-ion (usually TFA) and residual water are deducted. And batch photographs, since no printed lot number appears on our vials and the match between vial and report is made by cap color and crimp color against those images.

Storage on arrival and the 7-day check

On delivery the sealed vial goes to 2–8 °C, protected from light and moisture, and it should warm to room temperature before being opened for the first time so that air moisture does not condense on cold powder.
